European integration to be used for economic, social development

Minister of Foreign Affairs Ivan Mrkic and his Swedish counterpart Carl Bildt agreed today that after the decision to start accession negotiations with the EU, Serbia should focus on economic development.
Mrkic said at a joint press conference with Bildt that the meeting dealt with new investments and added that relations between Serbia and Sweden are very close and that there are no open issues between them.
He thanked Bildt for the support he has been giving to Serbia in the recent years, including the support to finding the right path that would lead to the decision of the European Council to start accession negotiations.
Bildt said that after this decision, new opportunities will open up for Serbia, but underlined that European integration and reforms should have the greatest effect on economic and social development.
