Significant possibilities for promotion of relations between Serbia, Sweden

Prime Minister Ivica Dacic and Swedish Minister of Foreign Affairs Carl Bildt agreed today that bilateral relations between the two countries are at a high level, but that there is still room for their improvement.
Speaking at a joint press conference with Bildt, Dacic thanked Sweden for its strong support to Serbia on its path towards the EU, including the assignment of the date of commencement of accession negotiations.
He said that Serbia is ready to get down to business when it comes to accession negotiations, adding that for our country it is of great interest to start and finish these talks as soon as possible.
According to him, Serbia does not ask for any special privileges in the European institutions, and it deserved every decision concerning her, including the last one made in Brussels.
The Prime Minister pointed out that the process of European integration will have political and economic and civilisational benefits for Serbia, but he underlined that citizens should be aware that the standard of living will not improve overnight after the opening of the negotiations.
Dacic said that Serbia and Sweden have good political and economic relations, adding that the trade exchange, which last year amounted to €170 million, could be higher.
The Prime Minister said he briefed the Swedish Foreign Minister on the reforms in Serbia and the course of dialogue with Pristina.
Bildt stated that the decision of the European Council to start accession negotiations represents a new phase in the European integration of Serbia.
He underlined that opening accession negotiations does not mean that problems will get solved on their own, however that is a process that will open many significant opportunities for Serbia.
The Swedish Minister said that at last night’s celebration of Croatia’s accession in the EU held in Zagreb he saw that the relations among the countries of the region are getting better and better and that they should continue in that direction.
