Serbian Minister of Labour, Employment, and Social Policy Slobodan Lalovic has announced that a bill on gender equality will be submitted to the government in April.
Lalovic spoke at a press conference held on the occasion of the International Women’s Day, pointing to the difficult position of women in transitional societies, including Serbia.
Lalovic said that the passage of this bill will mark yet another step the Serbian government has taken that will help create conditions for greater equality for women and that another of these steps was the formation of a gender equality council a few months ago.
Nicole Harrington of the UN Development Programme (UNDP) said gender equality and the strengthening of women’s capacity to achieve a higher degree of equality is one of the UNDP’s top priorities.
