At a press conference in the government press room, held after Vucic and Prime Minister and Interior Minister Ivica Dacic met with representatives of the Serbs from northern Kosovo-Metohija, the First Deputy Prime Minister reiterated that Serbia in Brussels took care of the interests of its people and provided guarantees for the safety of people living in the southern Serbian province.
He said that these are certainly solutions that are not great, but that those solutions are certainly better than the current factual state of affairs, adding that Serbia came out with a defined plan for the first time since the 1990s.
For the first time we are talking about the future, and not history, and for the first time the international community is talking to us as if they owe us something, he said.
The First Deputy Prime Minister reiterated that accepting the Brussels document is the only right way for Serbia that ensures the future of the country, and added that the country should not be divided and disunited regarding this matter.
He also said that representatives of Serbs from northern Kosovo have not endorsed the Brussels document and announced a new meeting with them on 30 April.
If they remain firm and do not change their view, there will be a 15-day period for enforcement of points from the agreement reached in Brussels, he stressed.
We have a clear decision of the Serbian government, we will have a clear decision of the parliament. The state leadership will take responsibility for the Brussels decision, he stressed.
He reiterated that it would be the worst for Serbia to be divided when it comes to the implementation of the agreement, adding that it is important to reach unity of all the relevant actors in the political arena.
