Jocic said that the equipment and vehicles are for the Ministry’s team for combating human trafficking, which will improve the ability of the police in this area.
Jocic pointed out that despite proclaimed human rights and freedoms, slavery has been restored in the 21st century and as a result, millions of men, women, and children are forced into labour, prostitution, slavery and beggary.
US Ambassador Michael Polt said that human trafficking ranks as the third largest income for organised criminal groups, after drugs and arms trade. He added that over 75,000 people are victims of human trafficking in central and eastern Europe, which is why the United States and the international community is intensifying multilateral and bilateral initiatives against this type of crime.
According to Polt, one of the most important such initiatives is the Southeast Cooperative Initiative (SECI), which is based in Bucharest. He added that Serbia is also member of the SECI.
The vehicles are being presented on behalf of SECI, the Federal Bureau of Investigation office in Belgrade and the US Embassy.
