At a joint press conference held after the meeting of the two officials, Mrkic said that the main topics of the meeting were stability in the region, improvement of economic cooperation and dialogue between Belgrade and Pristina.
He underlined that good bases for further cooperation between Serbia and Turkey have been created and that special attention will be paid to development of economic relations and the increase of trade exchange.
Davutoglu declared that Serbia and Turkey have a common vision of the region of southeast Europe in which there are no enmities, tensions or prejudices, which is a safe and prosperous region in which countries are integrated in a peaceful way.
Serbia, as the central country of the region, will continue to be a strategic actor in that, the Minister said and added that trilateral cooperation of Serbia, Turkey and Bosnia-Herzegovina also contributed to good relations in the region.
He said that he came on a visit to Belgrade as part of preparations for the upcoming visit of President of Serbia Tomislav Nikolic to Turkey, but also to convey a message of friendship and partnership.
The visit of the Serbian President to Turkey will contribute to the improvement of overall relations between the two countries, the Minister noted and added that it is good that President Nikolic will also speak with Turkish businessmen.
Davutoglu said that the Turkish government encourages businessmen to invest in Serbia as much as possible, and voiced his belief that the trade exchange, which now stands at approximately €550 million can be increased to €1 billion in a few years’ time.
Speaking about dialogue between Belgrade and Pristina, Davutoglu underlined that Turkey strongly supports these talks and that it is available to contribute to that process in any way it can.
Mrkic and Davutoglu previously signed the Agreement on the employment of staff of diplomatic and consular offices.
