Head of the Office of EU Integration Radmila Milivojevic said today that the office and the Conrad Adenauer Foundation will stage regular meetings between representatives of the media, the Serbian government, the European Commission (EC) delegation in Serbia-Montenegro, and representatives of EU countries in Serbia-Montenegro.
Milivojevic told a press conference that after a successful meeting under the advanced standing dialogue between the EC and Serbia-Montenegro, a positive feasibility study on stabilisation and association with the EU can be expected by the end of March this year.
She stressed that the role of the media in the process of association with the EU is of great significance, judging from the experience of the countries that joined the EU in 2004.
The project will be launched on February 18, she said and added that meetings will be held every second Sunday in the form a working breakfast.
The first meeting will take place at Belgrade’s Palace Hotel on Friday, March 4, at noon. The host of the meeting will be Serbian Deputy Prime Minister Miroljub Labus, who was recently appointed as chief of the government’s negotiating team.
Conrad Adenauer Foundation Director Bernard Lamers said the foundation is in favour of an EU that comprises all the countries of Europe.
According to opinion polls, most citizens of Serbia-Montenegro favour accession to the EU, which is a crucial precondition for this project to succeed, said Lamers and added that the media plays an important part in maintaining the positive image of EU accession.
