Speaking at his first news conference since he was appointed President of the Coordinating Body, Stankovic said that the monuments were erected without permission of the Institute for Protection of Cultural Monuments in Nis, which is responsible for construction on the square in Presevo.
He pointed out that in the area of three municipalities, almost 15 monuments to members of the so-called OVPMB were erected, and that there are other monuments which were erected in this way, such as the monument to Acif Efendi in Novi Pazar.
Commenting on the statements by Albanian and Kosovo prime ministers Sali Berisha and Hashim Thaci in Skopje, who spoke about the national unification of Albanians, Stankovic reiterated that the south of Serbia is an inseparable part of our country.
He said that in the recent talks with the ambassadors of the United States and Great Britain to Serbia, Michael Kirby and Michael Davenport and representatives of the EU and the OSCE, Vincent Degert and Paula Thiede it was agreed that the three municipalities are an inseparable part of Serbia.
According to him, during that meeting it was jointly concluded that more investments should be made in the three municipalities in southern Serbia and that the economic development of this area is necessary in order to improve the living conditions of the locals.
Speaking about the upcoming activities of the Coordinating Body, Stankovic said that the construction of a new building of the Faculty of Economics in Bujanovac is planned, as well as giving scholarships worth RSD 6,000 per month to 240 secondary school students.
Also, a school of Serbian language started with work in Presevo and Bujanovac, and RSD 40 million in subsidies has been secured for small and medium-sized enterprises in the three municipalities in southern Serbia.
