Dacic said in an interview with the daily newspaper "Vecernje Novosti" that the Appellate Chamber of the International Criminal Tribunal for former Yugoslavia (ICTY) in The Hague, which exonerated Ante Gotovina and Mladen Markac for the crimes in the operation "Storm", has made Serbian victims worthless.
He pointed out that all available mechanisms will be discussed in the upcoming days in order to see what can be done about that judgment.
According to Dacic, one of the most important goals of the Serbian government is to raise our country economically on its feet because it will thus be politically influential.
The Prime Minister said that the country supports the initiative of Vuk Jeremic in the United Nations General Assembly (UN GA) to initiate a debate on the work of the ICTY and the consequences of its decisions.
In the coming months our country will through a diplomatic offensive try to win the support of as many influential countries in the UN.
From the debate in the UN General Assembly we cannot expect any concrete legal effects of the acquittal itself, the Prime Minister said, adding that we will see what this debate can produce in terms of a possible shortening of the tribunal’s mandate and its reorganisation.
Speaking on cooperation with the tribunal, Dacic said that it will be kept on a technical level, which actually means that we meet the requirements of the defence and the prosecution in the case of documents which are relevant to individual cases.
