Speaking at a press conference at which the project and the upcoming conference “Belgrade Model European Union 2012” were presented, Majstorovic announced that the conference will be held in Belgrade from 25 to 28 October.
The project “Belgrade Model European Union 2012” is a simulation of the functioning and the way of decision-making in the institutions of the EU, with the aim of brining the Union closer to students.
The conference will be attended by 80 students of Serbian faculties of social sciences and 80 students from abroad.
Majstorovic underlined that “Belgrade Model European Union 2012” project was endorsed by the EU Integration Office and the UNDP programme as part of the Serbian government’s Communication Strategy for the Accession of Serbia to European Union.
UNDP Deputy Resident Representative in Serbia Jurg Staudenmann specified that the conditions for Serbia to enter the EU are in the field of the rule of law, development of democratic institutions, good functioning of market economy and harmonisation of domestic legislation with the Union’s legal norms.
“Belgrade Model European Union 2012” is one of the five projects of organisations of civil society which the EU Integration Office endorsed in 2012 and which are aimed at informing the public about the integration process.
Today’s conference at which this project was presented had been organised by the Students Association BEUM.
