At a conference “Financing infrastructure at a local level – possibilities and challenges”, Kalanovic stressed that the completion of the Kragujevac–Batocina motorway, which is indispensable for the development of Sumadija as the centre of the car industry in the Balkans, will be the main priority by the end of 2013.
The Minister said that the second priority is the beginning of the construction of a regional motorway to link Corridors 10 and 11, which should begin in spring 2013.
This way seven municipalities with over 500,000 people, including Krusevac, Kraljevo and Cacak, will be connected, she noted.
Kalanovic said that the plan is to complete this motorway in four years, adding that talks are underway with a Chinese company on terms of financing and realisation.
She observed that the plan is to reconstruct regional road Novi Pazar–Sjenica–Aljinovici towards the Pester plateau and construct 10 kilometres of new road in this part of the country.
The Minister stressed that infrastructure is an indispensable precondition of economic development because it secures investment, encourages competitiveness of production and the opening of SMEs and halts migration.
The relevant Ministry is a true partner to local self-governments and wants to resolve problems together with them, as well as to be a link between the central and local authorities, Kalanovic remarked.
The conference was organised by the Standing Conference of Towns and Municipalities and its goal is to determine the infrastructure priorities and financing instruments at a local level.
