Agricultural census in Serbia starts

Director of the Serbian Statistics Office Dragan Vukmirovic said today that the projected price of the agricultural census, which, after 50 years, started in Serbia today amounts to €16 million and added that all data collected will be confidential and used only for statistical purposes.

At a press conference dedicated to the agricultural census in 2012, Vukmirovic invited farmers to honestly answer all questions because all will benefit from that, but also warned that the data, if false, could cause harm.
He said that the next agricultural census will be held in ten years, and announced that it will be organised every ten years.
The current census will last until 15 December and will cover all agricultural holdings in Serbia, about 760,000 of them, Vukmirovic explained, adding that over 6,100 enumerators are engaged in the census.
He underlined that the census will be used as a basis for future development plans in agriculture.
The main objectives of the census are to obtain a comprehensive overview of structural characteristics of the national agriculture and a database that will be internationally comparable.
Head of the EU Delegation to Serbia Vincent Degert said that the EU provided 60% of funds for the agricultural census in Serbia, or more precisely €9 million.
Degert said that the importance of this census is major since a complete census of agriculture has not been carried out in the past 50 years and because agriculture plays a very important role in the national economy.
