At a press conference dedicated to the status of Serbs living in Macedonia, Austria, and France, Cotric said that a delegation from the ministry and parliamentary board for relations with the Diaspora visited Macedonia on January 25 and 26.
Cortic said that Macedonian officials promised that the country will pass a new, liberal law on religious communities, which will allow for the registration of the Archbishopric of Ohrid and enable its normal functioning. Cotric also said that members of the Serb community in Macedonia are deprived of the right to practice religion in their own language.
Representatives of the Ministry and parliament also visited the Serb community in Austria, where around 300,000 Serbian expatriates live, with over 150,000 in Vienna alone.
Cotric said that the Diaspora Ministry will support the initiative of the Serb communities and clubs to gain the status of ethnic minority, in line with fact that they have lived there for centuries.
Assistant Minister for Diaspora Miodrag Jaksic addressed his recent visit to France, where he had a series of meetings. He announced a cultural event called “Days of Serbia in Paris”, due to take place from May 23 to 29.
