In an interview for today’s edition of Vecernje Novosti daily, Grubjesic said that if the European Commission is to make as favourable a report as possible, Serbia must start implementing agreements which the previous government had reached with Pristina, as well as continue fighting corruption and crime and make progress in judicial reform.
It is certain that we will receive a report by the European Commission on Serbia’s progress towards the EU, but what it will be like does not depend on us because the report was for the most part composed around the end of June, she said.
By mid-September we can fulfil some of the agreements we had already reached, but we must soon show a clear intention of speeding up the EU integration process, the Deputy Prime Minister said.
Asked about the way the agreements on Kosovo-Metohija will be implemented, bearing in mind that Belgrade, Brussels and Pristina interpret them differently, she responded that all ambiguities must be resolved.
Our state leadership will announce the concrete agreements that were reached in Brussels. It is certain that we will now keep saying this to foreign officials and the Serbian public, Grubjesic noted.
Asked whether the implementation of these agreements can be seen as an indirect recognition of the province’s independence, Grubjesic replied that it would be frivolous of this government to reject the agreements reached by the previous one.
Naturally, we will implement agreements in a way which does not contravene the Serbian Constitution and UN Security Council Resolution 1244. These are the boundaries we must not and shall not cross while implementing these agreements and in the upcoming dialogue, she underlined.
Dialogue with Pristina should be soon resumed at a political level and the negotiators and the format of the talks will be determined by the Serbian leadership in consultations with Brussels.
Grubjesic recalled that the terms for setting the date of EU talks were adopted at the EU summit in December and that nothing has changed in this respect.
This means we must make progress in normalising our relations with Pristina, which refers to the agreements on energy, telecommunications, mutual recognition of university degrees, implementation of these agreements and active cooperation with EULEX, she concluded.
