Compromise solution to Kosovo-Metohija must be found

Minister of Foreign Affairs Vuk Jeremic said that the main task of the Serbian diplomacy is to continue its work on preventing the recognition of the unilaterally proclaimed independence of Kosovo.

In an interview to today’s edition of Vecernje Novosti daily, Jeremic said that it is necessary that international circumstances be such so that the state leadership can reach a compromise solution for Kosovo-Metohija.

In that sense, the main task of the Serbian diplomacy is to continue its work on preventing the recognition of the unilaterally proclaimed independence of Kosovo, as well as violent inclusion of Pristina in international organisations, he underlined.

The Minister stated that, as the Chairman of the UN General Assembly, he will manage the agenda and direct discussions on almost all main issues that are under the UN competence.

Jeremic underlined that in such circumstances every idea and action of the Serbian government regarding Kosovo-Metohija will have far greater chances of success.

He explained that without previous agreement with the Chairman of the UN General Assembly it is not possible to implement any initiative, which is why the country the chairman comes from is in the centre of attention and has special significance in the international public.

The Minister underlined that Russia’s support was of great importance for his election, but that many countries from all over the world voted for Serbia.
