Minister of Agriculture, Trade, Forestry and Water Management Dusan Petrovic stated that agricultural policy measures must take into account both big and small producers and that the national interest is to achieve greater export of agricultural products of higher degree of processing.
Petrovic said in an interview to today’s edition of daily “Danas“ that all types of production must be supported by the state and that the new system of subsidising increases the eligibility of farms for state subsidies, with which a space for big producers will also be created.
The Minister said that new incentives have two goals – to increase the number of farmers eligible for state subsidies and that these subsidies help achieve maximum yield and profit.
I am convinced that with this we will create a good basis for the domestic processing industry, for greater production of meat, oil, sugar and soy products, Petrovic stressed.
He reiterated that he expects the establishment of price stability, which has been achieved when it comes to basic foodstuffs by restricting trade margins for this category of products to 10%.
The Minister underlined that Serbia is an exporter of food and that in the last two years it entered a good trend of increasing the value of exports by $500 million every year.
Last year Serbia exported $2.7 billion from the food sector and our country has the capacity to compete at the global food market, Petrovic concluded.
