Markovic told a press conference, at which the single electoral roll was presented, that the upcoming elections will be held on the basis of data from the single electoral roll, which will be used as the main data base.
The process to compile the roll was a long and difficult task, he said, adding that the postal company Telekom Srbija, the Serbian Chamber of Commerce, ComTrade computer company and the Centre for Free Elections and Democracy (CeSID) took part in this task.
The Minister said that this is the most modern form of an electorate roll, modelled upon similar rolls in countries Serbia is trying to look up to.
He explained that at the upcoming parliamentary and presidential elections, the voters will be able to vote according to their place of stay in the country, and not according to the place of residence.
Markovic announced that as of 15 March all voters will be able to check through an SMS whether they are listed in the single electoral roll and where.
President of ComTrade Veselin Jevrosimovic said that the single electoral roll is the most updated database, which, if integrated with the civil registry, will form a single population registry.
