In an interview to EurActiv web portal, Delevic pointed out that the European Commission set the improvement of relations between Belgrade and Pristina as a key priority for the opening of negotiations.
What will be taken into account is the implementation of the agreements reached, reaching new agreements in the fields of energy and telecommunications and creating conditions for the EULEX mission to perform its mandate in the territory of entire Kosovo-Metohija.
Serbia will also need to continue reforms and improve relations with EU countries in order to start negotiations.
Delevic said it is important to continue communication and to further build confidence and understanding with EU members, because their ultimate goal, regardless of their differences, is integration of the entire region in the EU.
She said that in terms of reforms, Serbia should focus on areas which according to the European Commission’s assessment require additional efforts to meet EU standards.
Delevic specified that these are the judiciary and fundamental rights, financial control, agriculture and rural development.
For the areas listed among the Commission’s priorities, but for which there is no single standard at the EU level, such as the media, the parameters to be monitored are progress, meeting accepted standards and functioning within various possibilities in the EU, she observed.
Delevic stressed that the European Commission wants to see the implementation of the Media Strategy, adopted last year, but also progress in this area.
