Police cooperation boosted at all levels

First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of the Interior Ivica Dacic today recalled that over the past three years Serbia signed over 25 agreements on police cooperation with various states.

In an interview for Tanjug news agency, Dacic said that these countries include Italy, Spain, Germany, France, Russia, China, Brazil, Argentina, Uruguay and others.

He noted that during 2011 a number of police operations were conducted, and the one with the greatest effect was operation Morava.

Dacic recalled that operation Morava resulted in arrests of a large number of drug dealers and the confiscation of considerable amounts of narcotics, forged money, weapons and stolen vehicles.

He stressed that cooperation with relevant international institutions has also been greatly improved when compared to the period three or four years ago.

The Deputy Prime Minister voiced his pleasure at the cooperation at both regional and international levels (Europol and Interpol), adding that in the previous period there was a lack of regional links between police forces and interior ministries.

These problems have been overcome and there are now no restraints in cooperation, Dacic underlined.

The Serbian Ministry of the Interior is one of the three institutions in the country in which citizens have the greatest confidence. The police today provides a sense of security and protection to the citizens and enjoys high renown in Europe, he concluded.
