European Union Prize for Literature goes to Jelena Lengold

Belgrade/Brussels, 29 November 2011

Serbian writer Jelena Lengold received the European Union Prize for Literature last night in Brussels.

Lengold is the first author from Serbia to receive this honour, and the award ceremony was organised by the European Commission and held in the Le Plaza Hotel in Brussels.

European Commissioner for Education and Culture Androulla Vassiliou presented the award to Jelena Lengold.

The Serbian author received the award for her book of short stories “Market Fair Magician”.

Over 300 guests from Europe were in attendance, including Deputy Prime Minister for European Integration Bozidar Djelic, Polish Minister of Culture Bogdan Zdrojewski and Dutch Princess Laurentien.
