State secretary for Tourism at the Ministry of Economy and Regional Development Goran Petkovic announced that the first Serbian Tourism and Business Forum will begin in Belgrade tomorrow with 177 participants, as part of a $ 4 million programme financed by the Spanish government through the Millennium Development Goals Fund.
Petkovic told a press conference that the three-day Forum will facilitate a meeting between investors and those who have projects for tourism development in Serbia, adding that this will be the first conference at which projects to develop tourist destinations will be presented and a possibility for direct investment in tourism opened.
He observed that the Forum will be held under the auspices of a “Sustainable Development of Rural Tourism in Serbia” programme, in which five UN agencies are participating.
UN Resident Coordinator in Serbia William Infante underlined that the Forum’s idea is to draw attention to rural tourism in Serbia.
Infante noted that apart from the already familiar tourist destinations, such as mountains Kopaonik, Tara and Zlatibor and Lake Palic, there is a need to promote less familiar sites as well.
