Vuksanovic thanked Tanabe on this donation and he stressed that Japan has provided much assistance to Serbia, primarily to schools and the education sector as whole.
He announced that representatives of the Ministry of Education and Sport and their Japanese counterparts will draft a protocol on cooperation in all fields, especially sports and martial arts.
Tanabe recalled that since the democratic changes in 2000, the Japanese government has implemented various projects to help democratisation and economic reforms in Serbia.
Tanabe said that since his arrival to Belgrade, he has focused on assistance to the education and health sectors and that 36 projects have been implemented in the education sector so far.
Since 1998, Japanese assistance to Serbia-Montenegro has amounted to $80.6 million. Under a programme of aid for basic needs of citizens, 73 projects have been realised, totaling $3.7 million, according to a statement from the Japanese agency. It went on to say that 36 projects were implemented in the education sector, worth a total of around $1.6 million.
