Donation of state-of-the-art equipment for cervical cancer detection

Minister of Health Zoran Stankovic said today that a donation of US company Hologic and its distributor for Serbia TimCo to the Hospital of Gynaecology and Obstetrics at the Clinical Centre of Serbia is a major contribution in implementing the national programme "Serbia against cancer."

Stankovic said at a press conference, held on the occasion of the donation of state-of-the-art equipment for diagnosis of cervical cancer, that this equipment will enable great savings.
Director of the Clinical Centre of Serbia Djordje Bajec explained that the donated diagnostic equipment and materials are actually the system “Thin Prep T2000” for preparation of samples for analysis with 5000 pieces of ThinPrep Pap test sets for sampling, whose value exceeds $90,000.
Bajec said that cervical cancer is the second most common malignant disease in women in our country and added that Serbia is the fourth country in Europe according to the incidence of cervical cancer, which makes the purchase of new equipment even more important.
US Ambassador to Serbia Mary Warlick pointed out that this donation will save lives of many women.
Executive Director of Hologic Jack Cumming held a presentation today called "New technologies in cervical cancer screening - ThinPrep Pap Test."
Cumming noted that malignant diseases are the leading cause of mortality in the world and that modern equipment helps detect them on time and thus prevent the lethal outcome.
