On behalf of the guest of honour of this year’s fair, Portuguese language countries, Mozambique author Mia Couto spoke at the opening ceremony.
The Portuguese language, which will be celebrated at this year's book fair, is an official language of eight nations on four continents - Angola, Brazil, Guinea Bissau, Cape Verde, East Timor, Mozambique, Portugal and Sao Tome and Principe.
The fair also marks the 50th anniversary of awarding Nobel Prize to Ivo Andric, and during the opening ceremony the songs written by our Nobel Prize winner were performed.
From 23 to 30 October over 800 exhibitors from the country and abroad will present their editions at the fair. In addition to honorary guest countries, the exhibitors are Austria, Germany, France, the Netherlands, Spain, Czech Republic, Romania, Croatia, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Montenegro, Israel, Iran, Japan, China, Cuba, Russia and Belarus.
As every year, four EU countries that have their institutes of culture in Serbia will have a joint presentation as part of the EUNIC.
The Family Day this year lasts two days – on 25 and 26 October, while the school day is on 27 October.
The fair will be open every day from 10.00 to 21.00, an hour longer than previous years.
Along with the book fair, the 42nd International exhibition of equipment and facilities for modern teaching was opened, as well as the 4th International education fair.
