Vincent Degert, left, and Dragan Vukmirovic
Vukmirovic and Degert signed at the government’s press room the Agreement on donation of €19.5 million with which the EU will support this year’s population census and next year’s census of economy and agriculture.
Speaking about national minorities, Degert said that there are no objective reasons for any citizen not to participate in the census and added that measures have been taken for successful census of national minorities.
He pointed out that it is important that citizens participate in the census, particularly members of ethnic minorities and those from underdeveloped areas so that the EU would have more precise data when allocating the funds.
Degert said that the enumerators will have on themselves multilingual census papers in nine languages of national minorities.
Enumerators will speak the language of the family that they visit, he said.
Vukmirovovic pointed out that the form is printed in Serbian Cyrillic language, which is in accordance with international standards.
He said the census was conducted in the same way in all countries of the region and once again urged the public to respond to the census, the census response being their obligation.
