Bozidar Djelic and Stavros Lambrinidis
Djelic told a press conference held after the meeting with Lambrinidis that it is very important for Serbia that it has a sincere friend in Greece.
The Deputy Prime Minister thanked Greece which, as he said, was on Serbia’s side in the most difficult moments and said that he is convinced that Serbia will be able to continue counting on Greece’s support in the upcoming months which are of key importance for its European future.
Lambrinidis underlined that Greece will make efforts so that Serbia becomes an EU candidate in December and that the date of accession negotiations is set.
The Greek Foreign Minister said that he believes that Serbia has met all the requirements on the European path, adding that Greece is working hard through its initiative "Agenda 2014" that the EU enlargement towards the Balkan countries is not slowed down.
The biggest mistake the EU could make now would be to stop the admission of new members after the accession of Croatia in 2013, he said.
Now is the right time to intensify negotiations that will bring new members into the EU, said Lambrinidis and underlined that he is convinced that Serbia has European future and that this is in the interests of both Belgrade and Brussels.
