Following a meeting with municipal president of Sremski Karlovci Milenko Filipovic, with whom he discussed the organisation of this event, Minister Markovic stressed that Europe’s rich heritage is the theme of this year event in all Council of Europe member states, adding that the town of Sremski Karlovci is excellently suited for this topic.
The event will be held on 10 September, the Minister announced, adding that agreement has been reached about the topics which cultural institutions will deal with when preparing the programme, and these will be the Matica Srpska Gallery, provincial Institute for the Protection of Cultural Monuments and Novi Sad City Museum.
Markovic recalled that “European Heritage Days” have been held since 1984 with the aim of promoting joint European cultural, social, political and economic identity through particular features of each nation.
Sremski Karlovci has greatly preserved regional values and at this year’s celebration Serbia will be able to demonstrate how it preserved its identity by conserving its material, immaterial and natural heritage.
