Markovic visits works in Studenica monastery

Minister of Culture, Media and Information Society Predrag Markovic today visited the monastery of Studenica, which has been under the protection of UNESCO since 1986.
The Minister was presented with the completed works on the restoration of the monastery as well as with future plans.
The Ministry of Culture, Media and Information Society allocated RSD 6.4 million for the restoration of the monastery, of which RSD 2.8 million for archaeological excavations, and RSD 3.6 million for the conservation and restoration works.
Plans for 2011 include a continuation of archaeological excavations and research in the northern part of the monastery compound and conservation work on the facade and the interior of the church in order to prepare for the instalment of the reconstructed iconostasis from the 13th century.
The Ministry of Culture, Media and Information Society financially endorsed the organisation of the 20th summer spiritual academy with RSD 800,000.
The festival is held from 17 to 26 July and gathers around 60 participants from Serbia and the diaspora.
