Speaking at a press conference, at which a competition for the best media coverage on EU integration in Serbia in 2011 was announced, Delevic noted that according to research, more citizens in Serbia endorse the implementation of the necessary reforms than membership in the EU itself.
She observed that Serbia is now in a phase in which concrete questions are dominant, such as reform steps to be taken and all that has to be done to launch negotiations.
The competition for the best media coverage in printed and electronic media concerns the issue of EU integration or the stabilisation and association process and their effect on the everyday lives of common Serbian citizens, Delevic explained.
Media coverages published from 1 January to 1 December this year are eligible for the competition.
Awards will be presented in ten categories: best TV coverage, best radio coverage, best newspaper coverage, best coverage in a local medium, best news report on SMEs, best coverage published in internet media, best student coverage published in printed or electronic media, best news report on an EU-financed project realised in Serbia, best interactive media content and best page on social networks.
The deadline for submission is 1 December and the competition has been announced on the websites of the EU Delegation to Serbia
www.europa.rs and the EU Integration Office
www.seio.gov.rs.
The competition is traditionally organised by the EU Integration Office, the EU Delegation to Serbia and Erste Bank, while members of the jury will be representatives from the Journalist’ Association of Serbia and the Independent Association of Serbian Journalists.
Winners will have an opportunity to travel to Brussels.
Head of the EU Delegation to Serbia Vincent Degert stressed that according to research, 26% of Serbian citizens find information about the EU on the internet, while 22% gather them through social networks.
Degert explained that these are new sources of information, which is why new categories have been introduced in the competition.
He noted that an award for special student contribution regarding the EU has also been introduced in order to give young people an opportunity to present their view of their future in the EU.
An award for best news report on European projects has also been introduced, Degert observed, adding that citizens are not aware of the fact that Serbia’s largest donator is the EU.
