In an interview with the daily "Politika" Djelic said that after the arrest of Ratko Mladic, we can see a rapidly increasing interest in Germany to consider Serbia’s candidate status and the start of membership negotiations.
This process is not a mathematical algorithm. But, there are three major components for a positive decision, he said.
The first is cooperation with the ICTY where we have made enormous progress, but that must be completed. The second is the fulfillment of the Action Plan, and the third are the first concrete results in the dialogue between Belgrade and Pristina, said the Deputy Prime Minister.
He assessed that our country is progressing well on all three fronts, but noted that there is a lot of work ahead.
Djelic said that we do not think about the percentages, but what we want is to dispute those who would like to prevent the progress of the people of Serbia on its European path.
Therefore I recently said in the European Parliament that we expect the EU to be strict, but fair, said the Deputy Prime Minister.
He said that there are no indications from Brussels about new conditions for Serbia.
The root of the risk for new conditions is the economic crisis that in some important countries was even more strengthened by anti-European parties, said Djelic.
He also said that Germany's position is that Serbia’s place is within the EU.
Germany is the largest single donor in our country with €1 billion in the last decade and it is good that so many German officials visited us to pave the way for the expected visit of Chancellor Angela Merkel in August, he concluded.
