“Spring cleaning of Serbia” on 4 June

Minister of Environment, Mining and Spatial Planning Oliver Dulic announced today that the campaign "Spring cleaning of Serbia” will take place on 4 June and on that day waste will be cleaned on the entire territory of the Republic.

Speaking at a press conference held in the Japanese garden in the Botanical Gardens “Jevremovac”, Dulic called on citizens, schools, companies and organisations to give their contribution to this eco-campaign.
We expect that this year more citizens will join the campaign than last year when over 200,000 people took part, the Minister said.
This number should reach 300,000 citizens this year, he said and added that last year's results were satisfactory because 3,849 sites were cleaned and over 100,000 cubic meters of waste removed.
That day will be a chance for everyone to clean up a location in their surroundings, and the idea is to raise public awareness about the importance of proper waste disposal so that it does not end up in nature.
The aim of this campaign is to clean up as many locations in Serbia as possible, the Minister said and noted that many villages and towns in our country do not have enough trucks for garbage collection.
He said that the number of territories at which garbage is removed properly has been increased by 20%, so now 60% of the Serbian territory is covered by the system of garbage removal.
Thirty recycling centres should be built by the end of the year at which separation of waste would be carried out.
The Fund for environmental protection set aside RSD 650 million for this purpose, Dulic specified and reiterated that the goal is to employ 10,000 people in the so-called "green economy".
Head of the campaign “Cleaner Serbia” Milan Kindjic said that everyone can mark the site they will clean on the website www.ocistimosrbiju.rs.
After the conference Dulic visited the Greenhouse and a tent provided by the ministry, which will serve as summer classroom for lectures.
