At a press conference for foreign media “Production and Trade in Agricultural Products – Global and Local Experience”, Petrovic stated that incentives are necessary for agricultural production in order to achieve stability in supplies of basic foodstuffs to the domestic market.
We expect a lot from subsidised loans, but whether this opportunity will be properly exploited depends on the ability and capacity in the entire agricultural chain, namely from producers to the processing industry, he observed.
The Minister noted that Serbia’s goal is to acquire candidate status by year-end, adding that agriculture and trade are fully prepared for this.
The Ministry has done a huge job implementing institutional and legal reforms, he stressed, adding that Serbia has free trade regimes with many large countries, such as Russia and Turkey, as well as serious contacts with a number of Asian and African countries.
It is now up to companies to take advantage of this great opportunity, and certify and harmonise their standards as soon as possible, he concluded.
