Minister of Culture, Media and Information Society Predrag Markovic visited today the Central Institute for Conservation in Belgrade, where courses in conservation and restoration are being held in cooperation with the High Institute for Conservation from Rome.

Conservation courses are the first project in the region that links education and conservation with scientific research and are intended to offer conservators and scientists the latest knowledge in the field of conservation of museum collections and archaeological sites.
Owing to a donation by the Italian government worth € 974,462, these programmes are held in especially adapted and equipped studios in the Central Institute for Conservation.
Serbia and Italy’s joint project is aimed at improving the awareness of the cultural identity of communities living in the Balkans, through the preservation of their cultural heritage, while the first result is a possibility offered to the Central Institute for Conservation to work with state-of-the-art technology and methodology in the field of conservation and restoration.
Over 200 professionals from this remit from Serbia and southeastern Europe applied for eight courses in conservation of various groups of items, and 81 candidates have been elected.
The realisation of this project opens a possibility for the development of culture tourism and thereby the creation of new jobs, reads the statement.
