Defence Ministry raised reputation of army members

Minister of Defence Dragan Sutanovac said today that the most important achievements of his ministry in the last four years are completion of the process of professionalisation of the Serbian Army and raising the reputation and standard of its members.

Speaking at a news conference at which he presented the results of work of the Ministry of Defence, Sutanovac said that other achievements of his ministry are the formation of the University of Defence, the strengthening of international cooperation and participation in UN peacekeeping missions and assistance in promoting and marketing the products of Serbia’s defence industry.
He pointed out that on 15 May 2007 the Ministry of Defence in its present composition became part of the Serbian government and started a serious and comprehensive reform of problem-solving methods and practical implementation of the ideas about the development of the ministry.
The Minister said that all necessary laws have been adopted and organisational changes have been made that are important for the functioning of the defence system.
Sutanovac pointed to the importance of introducing the institution of the Inspector General of security services in the ministry, the establishment of the University of Defence and moving the Department for Emergency Situations under the jurisdiction of the Serbian Ministry of the Interior.
This organisational scheme has improved the efficiency of work and brought financial savings, the Minister concluded.
