Miljkovic said at a press conference that Serbia will take this position according to standards and rules of the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO), which it applies in practice.
He also announced that in May the Serbian government will adopt a state programme of air traffic safety which has only 10 more countries in the world, and added that this document has been prepared as part of the programme of technical assistance in the application of the open air agreement in Serbia, financed by the EU.
The Serbian market is completely open for all airlines from the Member States of the Open Skies Agreement (European Common Aviation Area ECAA), said Miljkovic.
The first phase of implementation of the agreement is expected to be done by the year’s end, he said while the second phase will start as soon as air companies from Serbia start flying under the same conditions as EU companies.
The State Secretary added that the programme of technical assistance in the implementation of the Open Skies Agreement in Serbia, funded by the EU with €2 million, helped Serbia get the new Law on air transport, which is harmonised with European legislation.
Under this programme, which was implemented from 2009 to 2011, the equipment worth €350,000 for securing the airports in Belgrade and Nis was purchased while more than 1,200 people were trained, he noted.
The programme was conducted by Swedish consulting company LFV in cooperation with the Ministry of Infrastructure and Energy.
