Mitrovic told a press conference that it is necessary to create an ambience in which education will be the generator of the country’s development.
Charge d’Affairs at the Japanese embassy in Belgrade Kazuaki Kameda and Director of “Marija Muncan” pre-school facility in Majdanpek Dragica Nikolic signed today an agreement on a €61.696 donation.
Kameda stressed that the donation is part of Japan’s programme of support to education in Serbia, voicing his belief that the reconstruction of this pre-school facility will enable children to play in much improved conditions.
He said he hopes that this donation will further enhance the friendly relations between Serbia and Japan.
Kameda recalled that the total Japanese aid to Serbia exceeds €200 million and that so far 130 projects have been implemented to meet the basic needs of the population (POPOS), in which €7.3 million has been invested.
President of Majdanpek Municipality Dragan Popovic noted that this municipality is one of the poorest in Serbia, which is why the donation is even more important.
He added that this is not the first donation of Japan, which invested a similar sum of money in the community health centre in Majdanpek.
Popovic specified that the donation will be used for changing carpentry in the pre-school facility which was built in 1960s when Majdanpek was experiencing economic development, but since then there have not been major investments.
Nikolic thanked the people of Japan whose donation will enable children in Majdanpek to have a much better and more pleasant stay, as the conditions for their growth and development will be greatly improved.
