Jeremic said in an interview to today’s issue of daily Vecernje Novosti that Russia and China openly backed Serbia and that all those who want this affair to be cleared up expressed their doubts in the work of the EULEX mission.
He noted that New York did not confirm that Serbia’s request will be fulfilled, but he said that chances are great because most of UN member states want an immediate investigation into Dick Marty’s allegations.
Jeremic recalled that at last week’s session of the Security Council Russia, China, Brazil, India, South Africa, Gabon and some other states gave overt support to Serbia’s request.
Unfortunately, certain countries are still reserved, but everyone agrees that investigation is necessary, according to Jeremic.
The Foreign Minister underlined that Special Rapporteur of the Council of Europe Dick Marty has said in his report that many officials of the international community knew about the case of trafficking in human organs, but they did nothing.
According to him, that is a very disturbing accusation which should also be investigated, however that cannot be done without a strong mandate from the UN.
It is obvious that EULEX does not have the jurisdiction outside the territory of Kosovo-Metohija, which is necessary in this case, Jeremic underlined and added that Dick Marty explicitly brings into question EULEX’s capability to protect witnesses.
If all crimes committed in the territory of former Yugoslavia have been investigated so far under the mandate of the UN Security Council, we cannot accept anything different in the case of accusations of human trafficking where victims were mostly Serbs, the Minister pointed out.
However, if that were to happen, it would be difficult to resist the impression that there are double standards in the enforcement of international justice and that it is in the interest of some people that the truth is not discovered, Jeremic highlighted.
He noted that there are more and more people in international circles who are starting to realise that the project of imposing Kosovo’s independence has gotten into difficulties and that it is necessary to find a compromise solution.
