First aircraft from Libya lands at Belgrade airport

First Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of the Interior and coordinator of the team for the evacuation of Serbian citizens from Libya Ivica Dacic was at Belgrade Nikola Tesla airport this afternoon to welcome the first aircraft from Libya carrying mostly women and children who were evacuated from Tripoli.

Dacic told reporters at the airport that the second Jat Airways aircraft from Tripoli is expected to land in Belgrade around 17.00 whereas also around 17.00 another aircraft with our citizens is expected to take off for Serbia.

Around 300 Serbian nationals will be evacuated from Libya today, he said noting that there are big crowds at the airport in Tripoli.

Serbia is one of the few states to receive permission to evacuate its citizens, said Dacic adding that the state has prepared travel documents for citizens who do not have passports with them, which is taken care of in cooperation with Jat Airways and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The evacuation of Russians has begun from Tripoli only, but not from other cities, said Dacic and added that the same planes and ships that are evacuating Russian citizens will evacuate the Serbs working in Russian companies in Libya.

Serbian nationals should also be evacuated from Benghazi via Turkish ships because the Benghazi airport has been completely destroyed, he said.

Dacic expressed the hope that the evacuation from the area will be finished today or tomorrow, adding that there are more than one thousand Serbian citizens in Libya.

Help to evacuate citizens of Serbia from Libya has also been offered by some private airlines, he added.

The First Deputy Prime Minister invited our people who live and work outside Tripoli to find a way either to concentrate in larger cities or to come to Tripoli to facilitate their evacuation.

State Secretary of Foreign Affairs Mirko Stefanovic urged all those who have relatives in Libya to tell them not to leave their location and that the Ministry will contact them and facilitate their evacuation.
