Two aircraft take off for Libya to evacuate Serbian citizens

First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of the Interior and coordinator of the team for the evacuation of Serbian citizens from Libya Ivica Dacic stated that early this morning two aircraft left Nikola Tesla Airport for Libya to evacuate Serbian nationals.

Dacic voiced his hope that the two aircraft, along with a third one due to take off later in the day, will manage to carry around 500 passengers, adding that the situation will be monitored as this is probably not enough to evacuate all Serbian citizens.
He said that according to the records of the Serbian embassy in Libya, there are over 1,000 Serbian nationals there, of whom three quarters are in Tripoli, explaining that evacuation by air will not be possible in other towns, but by ships from various countries.
Dacic underlined that Russia promised to evacuate over 200 Serbian citizens from Ras Lanuf, a town where over 300 Serbian nationals reside while working for a Russian company.
Turkish ships will be able to evacuate Serbian citizens from Benghazi, as the airport in this town has been completely destroyed.
Dacic announced that the airplanes will not leave for Serbia until all our nationals are on board and will return to Libya as many times as necessary, recalling that the team was ready for evacuation yesterday, but the operation was postponed until this morning because of the Libyan authorities.
He said that according to the Serbian embassy, the situation in Tripoli was much calmer yesterday than over the past several days and as for the airport, there are no security risks.
Dacic called upon a certain number Serbian residents living and working outside Tripoli to find a way to come to the city or group in another town to facilitate their evacuation.
He stressed that no one will be left behind to the mercy of the current situation in Libya.
One aircraft took off at 6.15, the other at 6.30, while the third one is expected to depart at 11.40.
