European integration remains priority of state policy

First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of the Interior Ivica Dacic today reiterated the commitment of the Serbian government to European integration and membership in the EU as our national and state interest.

Dacic said after the meeting with Director General for Enlargement Stefano Sannino that he expects the European Commission (EC) to give a positive report, i.e., a positive evaluation of Serbia's candidacy for membership, and that a date for starting negotiations will also be determined.
Serbian police will continue to work on the fight against crime, terrorism, corruption, protection of state borders, preventing illegal migrations, regulating the issues of asylum and readmission, and prevention of abuse of visa liberalisation.
Sannino expressed the hope that Serbia, despite the problems that the Serbian government is currently faced with, will remain committed to reforms necessary for European integration and thus provide a framework for the EC’s positive opinion on the candidacy.
Sannino said that the meeting also focused on the issues of implementation of the framework for visa liberalisation, and expressed gratitude to Minister Dacic on the commitment of the Serbian government to preventing abuses of visa liberalisation.
