Memorandum on loan for desulfurisation in TENT to be signed in March

Deputy Prime Minister for European Integration Bozidar Djelic said today that a memorandum on releasing a €200 million loan for flue gas desulfurisation in thermo electrical power plant Nikola Tesla A (TENT) will be signed in March.

Djelic told Tanjug news agency after the meeting with the state delegation of Japan that with this procedure, big environmental problems in Obrenovac and its surroundings will be resolved. The memorandum will be signed during the visit of Serbian President Boris Tadic to Tokyo.

The Deputy Prime Minister said that flue gases have been polluting the air for decades and this causes health and other problems to the citizens. He stated that this is a regional problem that concerns 200,000 people and which will be resolved with the superior Japanese technology.

Thanks to this project, over 95% of flue gases will be eliminated, the Deputy Prime Minister said and added that what used to be an air pollutant could be converted into building materials, which means that environmental damage could be turned into economic opportunity.

Djelic voiced hope that after the memorandum is signed, the contract will be signed between the Electrical Power Industry of Serbia (EPS) and Japanese partners, which will be followed by tenders at which Japanese and other firms will take part.
