Serbia, Slovakia to build gas pipeline together

Minister of Energy and Mining Petar Skundric and Slovak Minister of Economy Juraj Miskov signed today in Belgrade the Agreement on cooperation in the construction of gas pipeline Aleksandrovac-Novi Pazar-Tutin.

The agreement is worth €45 million and the project will be implemented jointly by Serbian gas company Srbijagas and a Slovak consortium led by company Euroframe.
Skundric said after the signing of the agreement that the elaboration of project documentation and land expropriation should be completed by the end of the year, and the construction of the pipeline with the capacity of 100,000 cubic meters per hour could be completed in two years.
The construction of a regional gas pipeline from Aleksandrovac, through Brus, to Novi Pazar and Tutin, including interconnections towards Raska and Leposavic is a very important project because it will provide clean energy products for this part of Serbia and enable development of the economy, Skundric pointed out.
The Minister of Energy said that Serbia might cooperate with Slovakia in the construction of underground gas storage in Itebej, which should allow for the creation of gas reserves for Serbia and the region.
Cooperation in renewable energy sources is also possible since Slovakia has considerable experience in using biomass and wind energy, Skundric said and added that Slovak companies are interested in joint use of mineral resources in Serbia.
Miskov underlined that this agreement confirms good political cooperation of Serbia and Slovakia and deepens economic cooperation and added that cooperation can be expanded since Slovakia can pass its experiences in economic reforms to Serbia.
Slovakia has fully changed the structure of its economy and reached a two-digit growth rate. Now the crisis is behind it and Slovakia records the highest growth in Europe, Miskov stressed.
Director General of Srbijagas Dusan Bajatovic said that the Slovak consortium led by Euroframe should provide technology and financing through a credit line whose guarantor will be the Serbian government.
I expect that the talks on how the project will be carried out will start soon, he noted and added that the gas pipeline should be high-voltage and 67 kilometres long with 273 millimetre diameter pipes, and that the additional 54 kilometres of the gas pipeline should be with 219 millimetre diameter pipes.
This project will supply with gas Mount Kopaonik which is a tourist spot.
