Determination needed to overcome obstacles to EU membership

Deputy Prime Minister for European Integration Bozidar Djelic stated last night that determination on the part of state organs is required if all obstacles are to be overcome so that Serbia may acquire candidate status in December and the date for talks is to be set.
Speaking at a “Democracy in the Modern Digital Age: Challenges for Germany and Serbia” gathering, organised by the Konrad Adenauer Foundation, Djelic stressed that the greatest precondition for achieving these goals is full cooperation with the Hague tribunal, voicing his belief that the remaining two indictees will soon be taken in.
Fast and to the point responses to the European Commission Questionnaire, submitted in Brussels on 31 January, prove that Serbia has both people and the know-how, Djelic noted.
German Ambassador to Serbia Wolfram Maas said that Serbia has been on a clear pro-European course for over three years, adding that the real challenges are still ahead.
To be an EU member is not a situation when all problems are resolved, but to the contrary, it is when the actual affairs begin. We want Serbia as a partner in the EU, one who is confident in us and in whom we can also trust, Maas added.
