Dacic and Leonheart agreed that the cooperation between their countries is very good and that they achieved outstanding results in combating illegal drug trade.
There were several operations during the previous period, and the DEA Director commended one of the most important ones – operation Balkan Warrior, as well as cooperation with Serbia’s police and security services.
DEA heads of operations in Europe and Eurasia also attended the meeting, at which the possibility to increase the capacity for cooperation in the upcoming period was analysed.
Dacic affirmed the readiness of the Serbian police to participate in training and professional development, offering Serbia’s cooperation in the fight against illegal narcotics trade.
He also noted that Serbia is ready to apply for membership in the International Drug Enforcement Conference, which is under the DEA’s jurisdiction.
He suggested to Leonheart that they should organise joint regional conferences in Belgrade, which could be attended by interior ministers from the region, bearing in mind the fact that this region is a transit area for illegal drug routes.
This was a very useful meeting and the Serbian security system was commended, Dacic concluded.
