Serbia to coordinate two areas of Danube Strategy

The Cabinet of the Deputy Prime Minister for European Integration stated today that EU Commissioner for Regional Policy Johannes Hahn released today in Budapest the list of countries that will be coordinators of priority areas of the Danube Strategy.
Serbia will coordinate the area of rail, road and air transport with Slovenia and the area of economy of knowledge with Slovakia.
Bearing in mind that the Danube Strategy is an internal document of the EU, coordination of these areas represents a great opportunity, but also an obligation for Serbia.
The facts that two pan-European corridors are intersected in Serbia - Corridor 7 and Corridor 10, and that our country borders 6 out of 14 Danube basin countries - Hungary, Romania, Croatia, Bulgaria, Bosnia-Herzegovina and Montenegro, represent a significant potential for improving connectivity in the Danube region and a chance for Serbia to become a leading player in the region.
Coordination of the transport area will certainly contribute to further improvement of transport infrastructure and will bring more investments. Cooperation in the field of economy of knowledge can be speeded up if more intensive cooperation in the region is established, on which Serbia, as one of the coordinators, will insist.
The Strategy of Scientific and Technological Development of Serbia for the period 2010-2015 represents a strategic basis for the development of science, national research priorities and stimulation of technology transfer.
