Dacic presents Serbia’s position on Kosovo-Metohija, EU integration

Belgrade/Washington, 3 February 2011

First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of the Interior Ivica Dacic stated that at today’s meeting with the US Vice President's Special Advisor on European Affairs Taylor Ruggles, he will present Serbia’s stance on Kosovo-Metohija and the EU.

Dacic told the Fonet news agency that last night in the State Department he met with US Assistant State Secretary Philip Gordon and his deputy Thomas Countryman.

He said that they discussed issues regarding the political relations between the two countries, Serbia’s EU integration, the issue of Kosovo-Metohija, as well as the adoption of the report of Council of Europe special rapporteur Dick Marty on the illicit trade in human organs in Kosovo-Metohija, at the Council of Europe Parliamentary Assembly.

Dacic told his collocutors that Serbia’s EU integration must continue and that separate talks should be led with representatives from Kosovo Albanians regarding all contestable issues about the province.

He added that aside from conducting separate talks with Serbian and Albanian representatives, the competent organs should determine the full truth and responsibility regarding the allegations of illegal trade in human organs in the province.

At the State Department, Dacic also met with Assistant State Secretary and Director of the Bureau of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs William Brownfield.

They exchanged information about the course of cooperation in combating illegal drug trade and discussed what remains to be done to further improve their cooperation.

Dacic also met with Congress representatives, while during his stay in Washington he will also meet with Director of the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) Michele Leonheart, with whom he will contemplate the current coloration.

During the weekend, Dacic will be on a several day visit to Cleveland, Ohio.

Serbia has maintained military cooperation with the Ohio National Guard and bearing in mind the fact that a large number of Serbian nationals live in Ohio, we would like this state to be Serbia’s partner, Dacic said.

Today in Washington Dacic, Minister of Foreign Affairs Vuk Jeremic and President of the Vojvodina Executive Council Bojan Pajtic will attend the traditional prayer breakfast.
