Restitution model tailored to Serbia

Deputy Prime Minister for European Integration and Minister of Science and Technological Development Bozidar Djelic stated today that the government’s action plan envisages the adoption of a law on restitution in the first half of 2011.

Opening a meeting within the European project "Focus on the Balkans", Djelic recalled that last December the government adopted the action plan envisaging the adoption of this law in the first half of 2011.
He noted that the injustice must be amended, but on the other side we must also make sure that the injustice from several decades ago does not jeopardise the future of our nation.
Djelic advocated the drafting of a restitution model tailored to Serbia, stressing that the right measure in this sense should be modesty.
We cannot expect to set aside more funds for restitution than even some wealthier countries had, he explained.
Each dinar or euro that is set aside for restitution competes with salaries for the education sector, the agricultural budget, scientific budget, road construction and other key issues which are crucial to the future of all of us, Djelic added.
He also noted that he would endorse natural restitution if it were possible, adding that a large number of such facilities has already been legally sold.
