EC to publish opinion on Serbia's progress in European integration on 12 October

Deputy Prime Minister for European Integration Bozidar Djelic said in Brussels that, in addition to the Answers to the Questionnaire of the European Commission (EC), the top European officials were also delivered the documents outlining ideas for increasing financial support from the EU to the countries of the Western Balkans.
Djelic told journalists after meeting with European Commissioner for Enlargement Stefan Fule that this is a document that should provide additional financial support for the Western Balkans through increased pre-accession funds and provide guarantees for our appearance on the capital market.
If Brussels accepts this idea this could save about €3 billion to our citizens, said the Deputy Prime Minister and added that this idea has been well-received and that the answer are to arrive in the next few months.
Representatives of the EC today welcomed the amendments to the judicial laws, he said, adding that we should work on minority rights, election reform, especially the abolition of blank resignations.
The EC will on 1 September finish the writing of an opinion on the readiness of Serbia to obtain candidate status for EU membership, which will be published on 12 October.
Djelic explained that along with the upcoming two reports of International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia (ICTY) Chief Prosecutor Serge Brammertz, the EC’s opinion will determine the decision of the EU on Serbia’s getting the candidate status in December, but also the date for starting negotiations.
The Deputy Prime Minister said that during today's meeting he invited the highest European officials to participate in the first Serbian-EU Summit to be held on 9 and 10 September in Belgrade.
