Djelic told the Tanjug news agency, after attending the voting in the European Parliament, that this confirms the unequivocal support for the further steps of Serbia towards the EU.
The European Parliament with 90% of the vote ratified the SAA, which is a big success for our citizens and our country, he stressed, adding that this indicates strong support for Serbia within the EU.
The fact that all countries and all political groups voted in favour of this ratification shows unequivocal support for the further steps of Serbia on European path, he repeated.
Djelic said that the resolution received the support of as many as 94% of MPs, which shows that the EU is ready for further steps that Serbia should take in the process of European integration.
Serbia wishes to become a candidate country by the end of this year and to begin pre-accession negotiations shortly afterwards, the Deputy Prime Minister reiterated.
Speaking about amendments that were unfavourable for our country, he said that the Serbian delegation managed to prevent the adoption of one of them and to make the other one more moderate.
The European Parliament is not responsible for the upcoming dialogue between Belgrade and Pristina, but the European Commission and the team of EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Catherine Ashton, Djelic said.
