European Parliament to ratify SAA with Serbia next week

Deputy Prime Minister for European Integration and Minister of Science and Technological Development Bozidar Djelic said today that there is no doubt that the European Parliament will ratify the Stabilisation and Association Agreement (SAA) with Serbia at the session that starts on 17 January in Strasbourg.
Djelic told the Tanjug news agency that the consensus on the issue should be as broad as possible, such as the one that existed at the end of 2009 when travel visas were abolished for Serbia.
The plenary session of the European Parliament begins on Monday, 17 January, he said, and added that European MPs will vote on the ratification of the SAA with Serbia next day.
The Deputy Prime Minister recalled that in June 2010 the EU decided to begin the process of ratification of the SAA with Serbia and that this process has been developing well since the agreement has been ratified so far by 11 out of the 27 EU member states.
Djelic voiced his hope that Germany will ratify the agreement in February, and confirmed that he has been informed by French Minister for European Affairs Laurent Wauquiez that France will finish this job by the end of April this year.
